Recently, a friend of mine decided to sell her bottles of the Tonic Golden Girls quad, which was an exclusive custom for the Facebook group
Multichrome Madness. Seeing her bottle shots had me thinking of my own set, which had been sitting in a helmer drawer with my other Tonics, half unused for quite some time. Being the procrastinator that I am, I immediately swatched all four, left them on my desk, and then promptly didn't touch them for two weeks.
Then, three days ago, Multichrome Madness announced that not only is Tonic returning with three new group customs, but the original four customs from last year are also going to be available for purchase again! Suddenly my random swatch craving is relevant! I figured I'd better hurry up and post before it becomes irrelevant again. So, without further ado, the Tonic Golden Girls: Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose!
So, my plan is basically just to drop all of these pictures on you without much comment. I did find the formula on all of them to be thicker than I prefer, but thinner is an easy fix for that. These pictures are all taken with artificial lighting, sometimes direct, sometimes indirect, and sometimes two-toned, which brings out the shift like crazy.
Sophia
Sophia is my favorite polish in the set. She's a lighter blue, not quite sky blue but deeper, with a green shimmer and sparse holo. However, this is Multichrome Madness, so the shimmer shifts very excitingly to a nice pink. Originally, this quad was only a trio, and Sophia was the one left out, so I am very glad they decided she had to exist! 2-3 coats plus top coat.

Dorothy
Dorothy is a deep indigo pure multichrome that shifts orange, red, pink, purple, as well as to a slightly greener blue. The formula was really too thick for me and I remember adding a lot of thinner to make it workable. 2 coats and top. I didn't remember to put a matte topcoat over it, but this is definitely one that looks really luxe if you do that!

Blanche
Blanche has a fuchsia base with a good amount of scattered and loosely linear holo and a shifty but primarily blue shimmer. It reminds me a little bit of Tonic's Polish Con or Bust 2016, the holo in Blanche is finer, the shimmer is bluer, and there's more of it. 3 coats and top.

Rose
Rose is a feisty multichrome with holo that shifts between all the warm colors in the rainbow but starts primarily at a rosy reddish pink in direct lighting, and a little closer to orange in indirect lighting. 3 coats and top, but most would probably use 1 or 2.

Rose vs. Tonic Bleeding Heart Sunset
As I was photographing Rose, I realized that it reminded me a bit of another Tonic, Bleeding Heart Sunset. They have a similar shift, but Bleeding Heart Sunset has a purple-ish base, so the overall effect is different, although there are some angles where they look very close. In the below pictures, I have Rose on my index and ring fingers, and Bleeding Heart Sunset on my middle and pinky. I think the difference is easiest to see in indirect lighting.

These will be available from the
Tonic Polish website for preorder starting Dec. 9, 2017. They'll be accompanied in the store by the new custom trio which I am very excited to get my hands on! All polishes can be purchased separately. If you'd like to pick these up, you must be a member of the Facebook group
Multichrome Madness, but you can join any time! Just don't forget to answer the membership questions if you try to get in.
Are there any other comparisons that you'd like to see? Is anyone else super excited for the comeback of this quad? Planning to pick up the new trio? Let me know in the comments!
