November 2017 Hello Waffle Visage

We-ell, I meant to have this up and ready to go like... two weeks ago, but one thing led to another, and my personal penchant for procrastination drew it out a bit longer. We're cool though, right? I have some pretty makeup pictures for you!

Today I've got for you some swatches as well as a full face look using the November 2017 Hello Waffle Visage subscription box. This month was a great one! Super wearable and 100% perfect for fall. It even came with some super precious bronze pumpkin earrings!

These earrings were the first thing I saw when I opened up that package, and they're pretty much perfect for me. I love dangling earrings, but I do tend to have this thing where they catch in my hair, fall out, and I don't notice until a few hours later when I'm back at the hotel and can't retrace my steps and I'll never find it again because our flight is the next day (goodbye, favorite multichrome leaf earring). Luckily, I don't have that problem with these, because the hook latches onto itself! Genius, really. The color scheme and design is so perfect for fall as well! Although it does seem like Seattle may have skipped autumn altogether in favor of heading right into winter so I guess it's not quite season-appropriate right now.

I just took this picture because I liked how shiny the leaf sticker was.

Onto the makeup!

This month's box was based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irvine. It features (from Hello Waffle) two full-size shadows, a halfling blush, a halfling shadow, as well as a lip gloss from Shiro and another mini shadow from Corvus Cosmetics. The art this month is just adorable, as always! Plus, this month's shadows? Glowy as fuck.

L-R: Corvus Eleer Van Tassel, The Galloping Hessian, Treasures of Autumn, Vast Expectations

The other two products were pretty nice, too! Although the gloss didn't exactly swatch super well, since it was very sheer.

The Galloping Hessian

Hello Waffle describes The Galloping Hessian as an "almost-matte caramel brown with russet shimmer". I'd call it more of a chocolate when swatched, but it looks caramel in the jar. The shimmer is kind of hidden but it lends a very special velvety quality to the shadow when worn over a glitter primer.

This one was a little annoying to work with because as you can see, it really glows over glitter primer, but it's more of a crease color, where we do not allow glitter primer to reside, so I couldn't really bring out that sexy glow on my eyes. It blends pretty well as just a crease color though, and did a great job adding depth to my crease.

Vast Expectations

Vast Expectations is a lovely, finely milled, satiny shimmery gold. HW describes it as "bright, warm golden shine". I'm glad it came in a full size because it also makes a perfect face highlight! It's very sheer, but it glows. I find it really versatile and I bet it would look amazing layered over a black or darker color as well.

You can see that glitter primer kind of solidifies the color of this one, so that it looks almost metallic. It's really gorgeous, probably my second favorite of the set, but it's the shadow I can see myself using the most.

Treasures of Autumn

Treasures of Autumn: "bright metallic copper with shifting aqua flecks". This is my favorite of the shadows in this month's box! It comes off as more orange than copper on me, although I suppose it can be argued that metallic orange is just copper, but I won't go into that. This is lovely, super metallic, and the aqua flecks are not only very obvious, but they shift to a fuchsia if you ever look at them funny.

It's much more metallic and coppery over Pixie Epoxy, and much more of an orange over normal primer. The flecks do come out over normal primer, but they don't stick to the skin as well as they do to glitter base. Treasures of Autumn is an excellent, fall-ready lid color.

Corvus Eleer Van Tassel

Remember how The Galloping Hessian was described as "caramel brown" and Treasures of Autumn as "metallic copper"? I think Corvus's contribution to this box, Eleer Van Tassel, is much more of both a caramel brown and a metallic copper. It's listed as "deep metallic copper", which is how it looks over glitter base. Corvuses tend to have more of a satiny-matte finish than a very metallic one, and I think this is a shadow where that's the case.

I wasn't really sure where to fit this into the eye look, since small lids and so many colors already, but I ended up putting it on my lower lashline.

Country Coquette

This month's face product, Country Coquette, is a blush described as "flushed peach with gold shimmer". It looks straight orange in the jar, but it applies more.. poppy red? I don't know, honestly it's kind of weird, but very wearable, looks peachy when sheered out.

I swatched it over Fenty foundation so you can see how it would blend out over a foundation. As you can see, it sheers out beautifully. Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Hello Waffle's blush formula is my hands down absolute favorite, and I'm glad that it hasn't changed a bit since being taken over by Shiro.

Tarry Town

Tarry Town is a gloss in the Shiro Cosmetics formula, who describes it as "a muted MLBB shade, sheer, with gold glitter". It looked kind of unwearably pale in the tube, but sheer is an understatement. There's not really much pigmentation in this gloss at all, so I think it's best as a topper. I wanted to do two swatches, one built up to opacity, but I very quickly learned that you cannot build this up to opacity. Anyway, it smells really delicious—kind of caramelly, fall treat delicious.

Over bare skin

Shiro's formula is, as usual, neither drying or moisturizing on me, and very comfortable to wear. Because this is one of the sheerer offerings from them in the formula, I thought it was a little bit sticky. Often with the more pigmented Shiro glosses, the pigment kind of soaks up the stickiness or something so they end up like a liquid lipstick more than a gloss, so the formula tends to vary depending on pigmentation. I like it nonetheless, although I am admittedly not a huge lip gloss user.

Actual usage of the actual products!

I put Treasures of Autumn on the lid, Vast Expectations on the inner corner and on all the highlight spots on my face, The Galloping Hessian in the crease and a bit in the outer corner and lower lashline, and Eleer Van Tassel in the lower lashline as well. Eyeliner, mascara, falsies, some brow stuff and foundation later, I put Country Coquette on as blush and Hello Waffle Full Yang right under it and on my temples as contour. Lips are just Tarry Town over my bare lips. I then looked at these pictures and cleaned up my brows because I hadn't noticed how scraggly they'd gotten!

The Visage subscription is available here from Hello Waffle Cosmetics for $30/month, including worldwide shipping! If you're interested in any of the colors I showed here, a limited amount will be made available for purchase here at some point in the future.

Thanks for reading! I thought this Visage made a great, fresh faced look for general autumn sentiment. Are any of you subscribed as well? What's your favorite product from this month's box? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I've never used Hello Waffle's products, and I'm not usually a huge fan of curated boxes, but Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite short stories, so I'm bummed I missed out on this one.

The products you got look fabulous, and I definitely see how they fit with the theme.

Your eye look is very pretty, and Treasures of Autumn looks great on you!

    1. Thank you! I love how much Treasures of Autumn really glows.

Yeah, I've subscribed to a few different curated beauty boxes in the past, but this is the only one I've kept and actually regularly use the products out of. I've been a Hello Waffle fan for a really long time, which probably explains that!

I know back when Christine ran it, she would put up extras that she had from past months, but I'm not sure if Caitlin is doing that. I'll have to ask.

    1. Thank you so much! Actually, one of my cats was featured in Kitty Kingdom this year (and the other one last year!) and I've been really excited about his color! I don't wear makeup very often lately, sadly, but you can follow me on Instagram @verysubject where I post when I do.
